A Bench Through Time – The Evolution of the Wishbone Standard

Wishbone-Standard-Benches-in-Osoyoos-BC

This image from Osoyoos beautifully captures the evolution of the Wishbone Standard Bench over the last 30 years. From right to left, each bench reflects a chapter in our ongoing commitment to innovation, durability, and low-maintenance design.

The original 1995 bench features our first "super wood" recycled plastic lumber, galvanized fasteners, a thick steel base, and a 3-leg design—rugged and built to last. The 2005 model shows our transition to "Altwood" lumber, still using galvanized fasteners and the same 3-leg steel base, with a slightly slimmer profile. Fast forward to 2015, and you'll see the modern design: "Re-plast" recycled plastic lumber, marine-grade aluminum frame, stainless steel fasteners, bull-nose board on seat/backrest and a streamlined 2-leg base.

Today, the only change in the past decade has been a switch to stainless steel lag bolts installed from behind, giving a cleaner, more refined look without compromising strength.

At Wishbone, continuous improvement is at the core of what we do, always staying true to our original goal: to create municipal furniture that stands the test of time with minimal maintenance. This bench lineup is proof of that vision in action.
